MELLOW OFFERING PROPERTY TAX & RENT REBATE ASSISTANCE
MT. POCONO, March 10, 2008 –
State Sen. Robert J. Mellow is urging senior citizens in Lackawanna and Monroe Counties to take advantage of the state’s Property Tax & Rent Rebate (PTRR) program.

The deadline to apply for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2007 is June 30, 2008.
By tapping gaming proceeds, Mellow said the eligibility levels and rebate amounts were expanded last year. The income eligibility level (excluding half of Social Security income) is now $35,000, and the maximum rebate is $650 for homeowners.

Mellow said his local staffs in Peckville and Mt. Pocono are available to help people determine their eligibility, obtain and complete an application and apply for a rebate.

“Many senior citizens on fixed incomes continue to have trouble making ends meet, so it’s important for them to take advantage of this program,” Mellow said. “Staff is available at all of my local offices to first, determine if persons are eligible for a rebate, second, to make sure that they apply, and third, to help residents fill out the rebate form.”

Assistance is available by appointment. To schedule an appointment in Peckville, call (570) 489-0336. The Mt. Pocono office can be reached at (570) 839-4812.

Rebate forms can also be obtained at the either of the Senator’s office locations, 524 Main Street, Peckville, or 102 Pocono Boulevard in Mt. Pocono. The forms are also available by calling 1-888-222-9190.
